Dahanu sets two challenges for a weighbridge: the sea air and the monsoon. Salt in the air attacks plain steel, junction boxes and cable glands, so near the fish landings and on the coastal belt choose a concrete (RCC) weighbridge or a well-painted steel one with IP68 load cells and sealed junction boxes. The Palghar monsoon is heavy, so a pit-less weighbridge, raised on pedestals with the approach graded away from it, is safer than a pit that can fill with water; if a pit-type is needed, plan the drain before the pit. The trade itself is mixed. Chikoo arrives in crates on tempos, pick-ups and small trucks in the harvest months, and packers pay growers by weight, so a 12 m weighbridge with fast, printed SMFW slips keeps the queue moving. Fish and ice are weighed wet: a concrete (RCC) platform with drain channels at both approaches lasts longest. Contractors for the power station and the Vadhavan port project run heavy tippers and trailers, and their sites move as the work moves: a modular weighbridge needs no foundation and installs within hours on a hard, level surface such as concrete.
