Pit, pit-less, RCC or modular?
Compare pit-type, pit-less, concrete (RCC) and modular weighbridges: site space, drainage, civil cost, corrosion, relocation and maintenance.
Choose a pit-less weighbridge for most open sites, a pit-type weighbridge for tight plots where trucks enter from any side, a concrete (RCC) weighbridge for coastal, saline or chemical sites, and a modular weighbridge for temporary or moving sites. All weigh to the same Class III accuracy.
All four Symphony platforms use the same load cells, indicator and software and weigh to the same accuracy. The difference is how the deck sits on your site.
Pit-less: the default choice
The deck stands on concrete pedestals with ramps at each end. There is no pit to flood or clean, the load cells are easy to reach and civil work is the lightest. Choose it unless you lack space for ramps. Pit-less details
Pit-type: for tight plots
The deck is flush with the ground, so trucks can drive on from any direction and no ramp length is needed. The pit needs excavation, retaining walls and a drain that must be kept clear. Pit-type details
Concrete / RCC: for harsh and permanent sites
A reinforced-concrete deck does not rust and needs no repainting. It suits salt works, chemical plants, ports and coastal areas. It can sit on a pit or pit-less foundation. RCC details
Modular: for sites that move
Bolt-together steel sections with built-in ramps install within hours on a level base and can be moved when the project ends. Modular details
| If your site is… | Choose |
|---|---|
| Open, with 8 – 10 m free at each end for ramps | Pit-less |
| Tight, or trucks must turn onto the deck | Pit-type |
| Coastal, saline, chemical or permanent | Concrete / RCC |
| A project site for a few years or less | Modular |
| High traffic, 24 hours | Any of the above with an unmanned system |
