A public dharam kanta weighs trucks, tractors and trailers for farmers, traders and transporters, and charges for every weighment. It works where loaded vehicles pass every day: near market yards, highways, industrial estates, quarries and mills. Here is how to plan one properly.

1. Choose the location

Count the loaded vehicles that pass in a day, and who needs a slip: grain and cotton traders, scrap dealers, sand and stone trucks, transporters. A good site has easy road access and space for vehicles to queue off the road.

2. Size it so no truck is turned away

For a public kanta the deck length decides your customers. A 16 – 18 m deck of 60 MT or more takes the multi-axle trucks and trailers most public kantas see; a short deck sends long trucks to the next kanta. 3. Stamping and registrations

5. Running costs and profit

Your income is simple: weighments per day × your charge per weighment. Charges are set by the local market. From that, take away the operator's wages, electricity, paper, the AMC and the yearly re-verification fee. The two things that decide profit are the location (how many trucks pass) and uptime (a kanta that is down for repairs earns nothing), so plan for an AMC from day one.

6. Timeline
